Angling Companionship
Sitting next to water, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world is good for our mental health. It lends itself to forgetting our stresses and anxieties, to contemplation and reflection. Whether you want to talk with someone or to sit in companionable silence, then it would be my pleasure to be there with you.
There is an increasing body of evidence supporting the mental and physical benefits of fishing and it often provides me with a sense of peace that I can’t achieve elsewhere. Focusing on a float can be entrancing, casting a fly line hypnotic. You can think as hard and as deeply as you want, or focus your mind focus on the fishing, distracting you from whatever it is you don’t want to think about. It is an opportunity to wallow in the beauty around you, or to regress to carefree childhood days fishing for minnows on a summers evening. Since I was a child, fishing has been my opportunity to process everything that is happening in my life and I want to help others enjoy its benefits.
Please note - my angling companionship service must not be mistaken for counselling. I will simply provide the tackle, environment and company to help you access the benefits of fishing. If you would like to speak with a therapist, then the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy has an excellent section explaining the differences between types of therapy/counselling and also provides a directory of members who meet certain professional criteria and are governed by the BACP’s code of conduct. This matters because in the UK anyone can call themselves a ‘counsellor’ or ‘pyschotherapist’, as unlike terms such as ‘lawyer’ or ‘accountant’ they are not regulated professions.
